The difficulty lays on how to preserve the beauty of Vietnamese language as a 5 delicate, tactful and expressive language. It is true that the Vietnamese young generation is being highly influenced by the Western culture through English.

The criticism is that young teenagers seem to adapt some inverse values against traditional culture rather than the civilized value of English such as turn taking or queuing for the right turn. An overuse of English within Vietnamese speech and systematic mispronouncing of English sounds create such grotesque face of Vietnamese teenagers.

Vietnamese language is being distorted than ever with their unconcern of traditional values like using appropriate address terms to people with high age or status. From the cultural perspective, the rising of personal orientation together with egoism are attacking the orthodox value of collectivism rooted long ago in Vietnamese culture.

Those upcoming language policy should focus on the cultural value of English as well as the different identities it can bring.
