Long before anyone outside of circumscribed and as-yet unconnected circles had ever mentioned the words “Chaos” or “Dynamical Systems” theory, Jantsch was lucidly and adroitly anticipating some of the most advanced implications of this unborn paradigm. Let us face squarely the fact that Jantsch was given no paid academic job during a decade of his residence in Berkeley—a town considered to be a foremost spawning ground of scientific and philosophical innovations. This work, among other things, stands as the final refutation of all “deus ex machina” approaches that seek to explain with various forms of “magic” how we moved across the threshold from “disorder” to “order,” and from “inanimate” to “living organisms.

The book contains some amazing diagrams, but my favourite has to be jantscj one at the bottom of this section, a sort of cosmological equivalent of the tree of life! Jantsch in already recognized that it was epigenetics, not genetics alone, that makes the difference for organisms. Want to Read Currently Reading Read. Cosmic Evolution: The Self-Organizing Universe

The evolution of the universe – ranging from cosmic and biological to sociocultural evolution – is viewed in terms of the unifying paradigm of self-organization. One that suggests that “Darwinianism” applies not just to biological organisms but that it is also THE ultimate unifying and organizing paradigm at the base of all “ordered systems,” and thus at the base of all creation as we have come to know that concept.
